Synopsis: In every country on this planet, there is a WAR being fought to gain an asset more precious than gold or oil. The battlefield is a woman�s body when she is most vulnerable and in need of protection� when she is giving BIRTH. In this war we stand to loose our humanity. At this pivotal moment of life individuals develop either an intact or impaired capacity to love. Protecting our capacity to love is essential to saving our planet. The inappropriate use of technology during birth has disempowered women, harmed the bonding process between mother and child, and has sabotaged breast-feeding and our essential human right to peace. At the heart of this war, perpetuated by the agendas of big business and by our misunderstanding of the physiology of birth, we find the guardian of natural childbirth � the midwife. Along the fragrant streets of Bali and desolate Acehnese refugee camps of the Indonesian Archipelago, Guerrilla Midwife Ibu Robin Lim finds herself in the ring of fire, where the midwifery model of care is put to the test, at the epicenter of the turmoil following the December 2004 Tsunami. In this culturally mesmerizing, heart-wrenching documentary, you will discover why we must reinvent our protocols for pregnancy and childbirth. Director Statement Living one�s life at the epicenter of Love has been my passion in capturing the Guerilla Midwife on film. This six-year project took me from the rituals of Bali to the places where people washed up after the Tsunami, without their souls. It took me to Santa Barbara, to sit beside the very midwife whose hands welcomed me gently into the world, and to Italy where one village midwife was honored as a warrior for peace. My prayer is that Guerilla Midwife may be seen by enough people to tip the balance of our planet toward a lasting peace, where we all wish to arrive home. This is the job of the filmmaker, the daughter of the Guerilla Midwife. D�j� Bernhardt 
"You ask how a midwife is made", Poem and narration from Film" You Ask How a Midwife is Made First a girl has a daughter, a being born when a sparrow and a sea turtle mate impossibly. No manger to lay down in, this child comes silently before dawn lights the little trailer in a garden by the tracks. Too poor to imagine poverty, the baby feeds on the cracked, sore nipples of love, while hummingbirds and crickets sing in the sunflower and sweet pea teepee. As the girl rolls her baby in autumn leaves dioxins kill babies in Italy. Boats full of refugees are sunk by governments. Oil becomes more precious than the weight of a human or owl's soul. A slow revolution and six more babies woke her up to the truth, that she cannot protect her seven children or the owls unless she takes the yellow dress her Filipino grandmother offers her in a dream. This tattered yellow garment becomes a flag of peace. It signals a war will be fought with the weapons of gentle love, and a trembling hand to give comfort. She cannot change this world, where shadow puppets dance on the red lips of volcanoes, and miracles are extinct, but she must give it a go.
